2021 marks the centennial anniversary of the California Highway Commission and U.S. Bureau of Public Roads testing road designs in Pittsburg.
In the spring of 1921, engineers at CHC and the Bureau began road testing by the Columbia Steel Company. To assist, 40 trucks that were surplus war equipment were loaned to the Bureau to carry out the tests.
Many of the design features tested during this time and noted in the report published in 1922 are still being used to this day. Today, the City remains a leader in promoting new ways to move goods and people.
