This fall, John Muir Land Trust launched Family Harvest Farm, a special program that employs transition-age youth in the foster care system with on-the-job training in organic farming.
Located in Pittsburg, just off Highway 4, the farm recently welcomed its first four apprentices!
Guided by staff and working alongside volunteers, apprentices perform hands-on farm work including propagating seeds, planting and harvesting crops and preparing and delivering food to local neighborhoods.
By contributing to a vibrant local food system, Family Harvest Farm fosters healthy living, a nurturing environment and a more sustainable community.
